At one second past midnight on January 1, the day will be changed from Thursday to Friday, usually a transition of no special significance. But somehow, we've decided that this change, which will end one year and begin the next, is different. This unique tick of the clock has always prompted us both to celebrate and to step outside the day-to-day activity we’re always busy with to reflect.
The end of this year will surely bring people to reflect more on what has been an extraordinary year of immense difficulty, heartbreak, but also a year of change. Change that has divided a lot of people. Change that has resulted in the resilience in humanity.
Resilience refers to how well you can deal with and bounce back from the difficulties of life and boy, have there been a lot of difficulties. What we must remember is, we are all unique in ourselves and we all deserve to be true to ourselves and our beliefs. Whether you're going through a tough time now or you want to be prepared for the next one, there are things we can do to ease ourselves into 2021 with the sense of hope and belief for a rewarding year.
Have a sense of Purpose
This can be anything that's going to give you something that is meaningful. Something that is right for you.
Believe in your abilities
Have confidence in your own abilities. Remind yourself of your strengths and accomplishments.
Embrace Change
I think part of resilience is to have flexibility, by being able to be adaptable to change we can be better placed to face a crisis. You may want to branch out in New direction or cement the one you're in and rejig to make it work. Resilience teaches you that you have control and make the choice that's right for you.
Be optimistic
It's very hard to stay optimistic in these times but if you can maintain a hopeful outcome you can then be hopeful of a better future.
Nurture Yourself / Self care
It is important not to neglect your own needs. Focus on building on your self-care, add in whatever gives comfort, joy, relaxation. Give yourself the time to give to you. By taking care of your own needs you will be better placed to give to others and to manage whatever challenges lay ahead.
Establish goals
We are being faced with many changes and if we can look at a situation and then set out goals to deal with them, we can then work towards it. If a goal seems overwhelming, then its ok to step back and reassess. Break them down into manageable pieces.
Even in the face of events that seem unimaginable, resilience can allow you to be the strength to not just survive but to prosper.
Through adversity you can thrive.....
